Philip Ó Ceallaigh was born in 1968 in Ireland. He has lived and worked in Spain, Russia, the United States, Romania, Kosovo, Georgia and Egypt, at a variety of jobs, from labourer to researcher to journalist to truck driver. His first published story won a Hennessy Award in 1998, and he won a second Hennessy Award, for poetry, in 2001. In 2004 he was shortlisted for the Davy Byrnes Short Story Award. His debut collection of short stories, Notes from a Turkish Whorehouse, was published by Penguin Ireland in February 2006. He lives in Bucharest, Romania.
