Report 2010

Santa Maddalena. Almost a year now. The book I started there is nearing completion. Santa Maddalena. I can’t wait to return, walk again through the olive trees, and break bread with Beatrice and resident writers. Return to Grisha’s wonderful force-field, and be irradiated by the glow of objects in his studio. How many steps to Chatwin’s tower? Tuscan stones. Stand again in front of the pyramid. So still, a bird will land on my shoulder. Another turning point. Back to Anecdotage and Neelmini’s soups! I did some of my best work in that Persian-Sicilian room with a view (of tall, green bamboo). In Donnini one arrives as a writer, and departs as a botanist. Thanks Beatrice. Grazie a tutti.
